From the get-go, HoldFast’s allegiance lies in this: steadfast dedication to professional photographers and the systems they utilize. Committed to paving the way, HoldFast gear accentuates style while also performing comfortably and efficiently. Responsible for creating a new genre within the industry, we’re changing the way photographers look and feel while doing their best work.
In this series, you’ll hear stories of HoldFast gear and the photographers–the pioneers, the adventurers, the originals–that use them. This is How You HoldFast.
One could say that capturing the great outdoors, and its inhabitants, requires a mixture of agility and adaptability; one minute the stars have aligned (perhaps literally) for the perfect shot, and the next minute it’s gone. As an outdoor enthusiast, Michael Short knows this first hand.
With more than 20 years of journalism experience, Short is the only full-time broadcast journalist in Alberta, Canada, bringing the outdoors to audiences through his media company, and television show, Let’s Go Outdoors. Over two decades in the industry means Short’s needed to fine tune a system that works well for him, as both host and producer of the show, when heading out for a full day of capturing conservation and environmental stories.
“When I’m out hiking for a full day, I was looking for a system that allowed me to have my hands free, yet when an animal or bird caught my attention, I was able to bring the camera up and get the shot. When I saw your demo on the HoldFast Youtube Channel, it registered that this is what I had been looking for,” Short says.
Quickly purchasing the Money Maker (and then two more), Short used the multi-camera system to setup the carrying of two cameras, one for stills and one for video. “Another Money Maker is configured for carrying either a stills camera or my video camera in addition to various lens pouches,” of which is has four, Short explains.
Short was drawn to the practicality of HoldFast Gear immediately, realizing that have a camera strap that was both functional and stylish was something that needed to have a place in his arsenal of equipment while shooting.
“Money Makers do what is advertised, by providing quick access to my cameras when required. The quality of your gear is second to none, at least in my 20+ years of videography/photography,” says Short. “There really hasn’t been anything even close to HoldFast Gear.”
Utilizing the Sightseer Sling has also proved indispensable for Short, as its minimal set up is great for what Short says is “traveling light, with just one camera and lens setup.” Short has also expanded his carrying capacity by adding Sightseer Cell Phone Pouches as necessary, as well as the Explorer Lens Case, and even a crowd favorite, the HoldFast + Fundy Streetwise bag. A big piece of the puzzle, although small in size, has also been Short’s use of the Adjustable Sliders to his Money Makers.
“I love the Adjustable Sliders! These allow you ‘personalize’ what you carry, and how you carry gear,” Short explains. “In some instances, I can fix a Slider to my day pack and have a camera ready to shoot. Because yes, even though I shoot in the back-country, I still want to look great doing it!”
